How Prepared Are You?

A little bit of our story….

First off…WELCOME!! This website is the result of a lot of frustration in trying to figure a way to make our own food storage more complete, and wanting to share our approach with YOU! Maybe our work will result in some huge shortcuts for you.

We are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (a.k.a. LDS, Latter-Day Saints, or Mormons). The leaders of our church have been telling us for decades to store up food against hard times, so we’re pretty used to the idea of food storage. Regardless of your faith, ethnicity or nationality, we think you’d agree, it’s high time we got serious about putting some food away.

Until a few years ago, we never heard the phrase “store what you eat and eat what you store.” That could have changed our approach over 30 years ago. Before, our approach was to grow a garden, can up a bunch of food, buy a bunch of wheat, and hope for the best. We looked at what appeared to be fully stocked shelves in our tiny pantry and thought we were doing pretty good. Boy, were we wrong!

A few years ago, my wife decided to take a bunch of our family’s favorite recipes and start building our food storage around those. We started with an excel spreadsheet. As we tried to be more thorough and accurate, that spreadsheet gave birth to others. It was very accurate and time consuming, and not a little bit confusing trying to keep track of everything.

This website is an attempt to make things easier, not just for us, but for you as well. It is our hope that through this process, you are able to achieve your goal of self sufficiency in these troubled and uncertain times. We hope to help make your food storage journey exciting because you are making progress. At the end of the process, you will have a shopping list of things you need to buy. You can choose 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, or 24 months. I recommend you start with 1 month to experience the sweetness of success! Once that first month is in the bag….er…in the pantry, you can start on the 3 months. Let’s begin!

There are 3 steps to the process:

Step 1…Enter your meals. You are building a database accessible only by YOU.

Have you ever heard the phrase “Variety is the spice of life?” Well, it definitely applies to food storage. Can you imagine eating cracked wheat cereal every morning? How about chunked beef between 2 slices of bread, realizing that you don’t have as many condiments to add some flavor to your sandwich? Get together all your meals with adjusted ingredient quantities for the size of your family, and begin to enter them.

Step 2…Enter the items you have in your pantry. You will quickly see there are a lot of items that have just been sitting there….for a long time.

There will be some guess-timating, but round down. This is where the rubber meets the road. It’s going to be a wake-up call!

Step 3…Print Your Shopping List

Choose how many months you want at a time. The program will do the math behind the scenes for you.
